Farewell to Nicotine Address

CaseyG - Farewell to Nicotine AddressFarewell to Nicotine

Delivered 28 October 2009, Littleton, CO

Quitters, for the past 100 days you have been reading about a bad habit I have had to break. Yet today I consider my fellow HOFer’s and myself the luckiest people on the face of the earth.

I have been on KTC/ QSXtreme for 100 days and I have never received anything but kindness and encouragement from you my fellow quitters. Look at these grand men and women (Hal, Gman, Willy, Remshot, and SamCat). Which of you wouldn’t consider it the highlight of your life just to associate with them for even one day? Thank you for your help and encouragement.

Sure I’m lucky.

Who wouldn’t consider it an honor to know Flashman? Who wouldn’t want to get on that train he is now engineering. Also, the builder of quitting dip, snuff and chewing tobacco’s greatest quitting empire and web site, as I know it, Chewie? To have spent 100 days with that wonderful little fellow, Smokeyg? Then to now spend the rest of my life with this awesome group of quitters, working together to keep the NIC out of mind, out of body and out of sight forever.

Sure I’m lucky.

When you have a father and mother who work all their lives so you can have an education and build your life and be successful– it’s a blessing. When you do everything in your power to hide your habit from them it’s a tragedy and a shame. I thank my father for his support. My mother passed away 11 years ago she is not here to witness this accomplishment but I am sure she would be proud of me.

When you have a wife who has been a tower of strength and shown more courage than you dreamed existed — that’s the finest I know. Without her listening to me when NIC was whispering in my ear and KTC not in reach, I would have been weak and possibly lead astray.

When you have children that have the strength and honesty to ask their father, “What’s that in your mouth?” Then explaining to them what it is and asking them to not do it for the fear that they might want to be just like their daddy. Wow, remarkable.

I will never post a day 1 again. Today I met the train at the station, Flashman punched my ticket, I got on, and I can’t wait to see you my fellow quitters on this train with us. Quit today, quit tomorrow, and quit forever.

So, I close in saying that I might have chosen a terrible habit to start and now given a bad addiction to break, I’ve got an awful lot to live for. That is why I am here, with all of you on KTC/ QSXtreme.
