Don't Feel Bad About Using a Support Group

I often hear people talk about how they weren’t strong enough to quit on their own.  They sing the praises of a support group that has helped them succeed and then essentially apologize for using the group as its intended.  I’m here to tell you that it’s absolutely OK to get help quitting chewing tobacco.  It’s absolutely OK to seek out a support group that will help you quit dipping.

Support Groups… When You Need Support!

I belong to one and quite frankly I’m damn proud of my involvement.  I don’t think that this makes me a weaker person cause I couldn’t do it on my own.  Let’s face it, if I could have done it on my own I wouldn’t have been a can per day addict for over 17 years.  If quitting was easy we all would have done it years ago.

Sure, I might take it to the extreme with all the KTC gear I own but it’s only cause I’m PROUD to be a part of such an organization.  This support group has helped me do something that I wasn’t able to do on my own for years… it’s helped me quit.  And stay quit.

Don’t apologize for bettering yourself – embrace it.

I would suggest that folks that “resign” themselves to joining a support group are making a subconscious decision to do whatever it takes to quit. They may not realize it, but they have already found the key to success. I think I fall into this group.
When I first quit, I found KTC. I read the what to expect when quitting page and used that as my bible. That helped me shoot for short term goals. I knew there was some kind of myspace type of message board thing, but that was not my style. When I found myself firmly in the grasp of “the funk” I knew my quit was in jeopardy so I decided to try that board. It was that willingness to do whatever it took to stay quit that led me to QSX. So it’s kind of a chicken and egg discussion.
I do have to add the fineprint note that says joining was not only good for my quit, but it has been fun and rewarding too. I would never have guessed that I would have found such close friends in this community. I’m also proud to have accomplished this quitting thing with all of those fine fellas.
