An Important Message From Skoal – Recall
Not that I needed another reason to stay away from tobacco here’s some one more. Back in January it was reported that U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co, had recalled some of its smokeless tobacco products after consumers found metal objects in some cans. Thanks to KillTheCan.org Facebook fan and fellow quitter Bud we can now share the contents of the recall letter below:
Dear Valued Customer:
U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company is voluntarily recalling certain of its smokeless tobacco products manufactured at USSTC’s facility in Franklin Park, IL. USSTC has notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration of the recall and is working with federal authorities on this matter.
We initiated the recall after receiving eight consumer complaints of foreign metal objects, including sharp metal objects, found in select cans. In each case, the object was visible to the consumer and there have been no reports of consumer injury. Complaints have been received from consumers in Indiana, Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Ohio. Some of these reports have also included that the bottoms of the cans are missing a printed sell-by date, trace code, and USSTC’s phone number.
The majority of our products are not affected, including Copenhagen Fine Cut in a fiberboard can, Copenhagen Long Cut in a fiberboard can and Copenhagen Long Cut Wintergreen in a plastic can.

WARNING: This product can cause mouth cancer
I’m not going to bother getting into my personal feelings about a document that is signed “Your Friends” followed by the largest print on the page letting you know that the product can cause cancer. I’ll simply say it’s ironic.
For further details you can check out the release on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s website here www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm539395.htm
I’m so very proud to be a quitter.
