Cornstar’s HOF Speech – Just What the Doctor Ordered
Well, 100+ days…Before I found KTC, I didn’t even have the balls to try to quit. I knew I couldn’t do it.
My introduction to nicotine was when I was 7 and snuck a dip from my grandpa’s Cope can. As sick as I got, you would have thought that would have been the end of it. It was, until I entered high school. I messed with chew and cigs and was sick several more times…but by the time I graduated, I was firmly hooked.
My delivery method of choice was cigarettes. I knew they were unhealthy, but I was addicted. Shortly, I was able to quit smoking and replace it with dip. I remember that I really thought I accomplished something! Just a pinch between your cheek and gum…
Fast forward about 30 years after raising two boys, a couple career changes, and watching a can of chew go from a buck and a quarter to 7.50. I’m at my doctor’s office for a routine checkup and I mention that I’d like to quit dipping. We talked about Chantix, nicotine replacement methods, and cold turkey. He gave me the pros and cons of the options and told me to do some research on those methods. He then wrote Killthecan.org on a prescription pad and told me to check it out.
I researched Chantix first, and the side effects sounded like something I did not want to deal with. I was all set to try Nicorette gum, when I went to KTC.
I read and read, bought seeds and fake chew, then flushed my last can of dip, then posted roll. The first two days were the worst for craves. I treated those with the Jake’s Mint Chew. It was pretty foggy for the 10 days, and I had some sleep issues for a couple weeks.
The knowledge I took from KTC, the encouragement and support from the other quitters, made my quit possible.
I’m careful about becoming cocky, but it’s getting easier every day….I ain’t NEVER going back!
