Flying High

Heard this story a long time ago but I think it applies.

A father and son were flying a kite.  The kite is in the air and the son said, “Dad make it go higher.”  The dad let out more string, “Like this son?”  “Yes!  Dad let out more string so it can fly higher.”  This continued until all the string was out.  The son asked his dad to let the kite fly higher.  The dad said, “This is as high as the kite can go, there is no more string.”  The son said, “Why don’t you cut the string dad so the kite can go higher.”

So the dad seeing a teaching opportunity told his son to go in the house and get some scissors.  He came out excited and said, “Can I cut the string?”  The dad said, “Sure cut the string.”

The son cut the string and watched how the kite lost its lift and slowly fell to the ground.

“Dad, why didn’t the kite go higher when we cut the rope?  Wasn’t the string holding it down?”  The dad responded, “Son, sometimes things that seem to be holding you down, are really the strength that allows you to fly.  When the wind blows, the kite can fly because the string give the kite strength to resist the wind and fly above it.”

“In our house, I have rules that you follow.  Those rules don’t hold you back.  They will help you fly in your life.”

I think posting roll is like the string attached to our kites.  May we always see the value and need for our “String” and that it helps us resist the “Winds of addiction”.
