Herd Sports Chew Review
Back again today with a review of another brand new product in the smokeless alternative space called Herd Sports Chew. The company was founded in 2014 by a former NHL player, former NFL player, and NCAA hockey player turned PhD Pharmacologist.
According to their website www.herdchew.com, “Herd Sports Chew is rationally designed with smart ingredients. Each ingredient is included in the formulation for a specific purpose. A proprietary formulation and production method is used to create a product that packs and spits just like a long cut chew, has the desired burn or buzz, and tastes great. All of the ingredients are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) food additives, or supplements. No ingredients have any reported adverse interactions or contraindications when used in combination. So if you choose, you can swallow this chew as well.”
I got a sample of both the Herd Sports Chew Vitalize – Mint and Herd Sports Chew Vitalize – Wintergreen. Let’s give it a shot.
Herd Sports Chew Mint Review
Great smell upon opening the can. This has a goo long cut feel and it packs great. This is perhaps the closest thing to a true long cut I’ve ever run across which is exiting. For a Mint flavored product this is VERY spicy. It was almost too much for me at first but I stuck through it and really settled into the chew and it turned out great. TONS of dark brown saliva for that super traditional dip feel. Long lasting flavor (20 to 30 minutes at least). There was minimal float in my mouth which is a very good thing. I did develop a sort of “film” in my mouth toward the end of my chew and seems a tad bit on the harsh side against my gums. This may very well be due to the fact that I’m “out of practice” so to speak. This is very close to the real thing though the heat might overshadow the Mint flavor just a bit for me.
Herd Sports Chew Wintergreen Review
Once again an outstanding smell upon opening. This really brings back memories of my ol buddy Kodiak. This is perhaps a tad bit sweeter in taste but the smell is spot on. Once again a ton of saliva and it packs really well. It still has a nice kick to it but it’s not nearly as overpowering as it was for the Mint flavor. This is an outstanding Wintergreen product.

Tried the Herd wintergreen. Trying to quit Kodiak long cut. It’s not a whole lot cheaper than regular chew. It forms well and stays put. It smells like really bad foot odor. (if you’ve been in a hockey locker room) It creates good saliva and gives you the real feeling of chew, however that stench is something awful. I will try another flavor but this one’s positives just don’t outweigh the negatives.
I love this stuff. It can work your gums over a little but not as much as cop and skoal and the like plus Herd is good for you!
I gave a buddy trying to quit some Herd & he called me today & said this stuff actually made his gums bleed. It def gave me some gum irritation & left that film as I said earlier. So this stuff was an epic fail for me & my buddy.
Well I don’t know how you were able to obtain any but I’ve visited the website several times over the last month and they don’t have any product. That’s right, 0 product. Zilch. NaDa. I think maybe they aren’t making anymore because it was an epic fail for them too.
Hmm… bummed that they appear to be having fulfillment issues.
I reached out to them about these comments and they said that they flew through their stock and were working through a new fulfillment center and that they’d be up and running soon and would email customers. Brian I think I’ve got a couple of extra cans. Shoot me an email.
I think I gotta wait till football season is over or something. They seriously need to shut down their website.
I got a sample. You a new quitter or a vet or looking to quit? I still use Hooch & Teaza 1.5 yrs into my quit. I will always give a new fake dip a try, you never know. I don’t even dip much anymore, have had 1 Teaza this week.
Brian – I think I’ve got a couple of extra cans. If you’d like them shoot me an email with your shipping info. Happy to get them to you if you’d add a comment or a review.
Yeah, I’ve going to their website for 3 weeks now and they always tell me they are out of stock. I don’t know how you can run a business with no product! Now I’m thinking if I did order it would probably take 2 months to arrive. Duh? Seems to be more expensive than all of the others too.
Chewie, how long did you have the film on your gums from using Herd? I still had some this morning after only 2 rubs Tues. That’s a little concerning, I have never had this with any fake dip, only the real thing.
Hmm… I don’t recall it lasting more than the next morning or so.

My review of Herd is very similiar to Chewie’s. I am not a mint fan at all, but this tasted pretty good & I enjoyed the burn. I had zero float at all, packs awesome, maybe the best fake dip as far as that goes. My biggest turnoff was just what Chewie said, my gums are pretty soar today & I had 2 dips of Herd yesterday. I tried the mint & WG, both were good. All in all, not a bad product, but not liking the sour gum feeling. Thx for the assist Chewie. 🙂
I meant soar gum feeling, not sour. 🙂
I tried to get a sampler pack, after adding the sampler to my cart, it would not allow me to checkout. I emailed them & they are out of stock right now & said to check back next week. Not sure if this is good or bad.
I too had the same response from them and that was a week ago
Tried to order, but there was a problem, I contacted them to see if they can fix it.
I’m gonna give it a shot.
forty five for a roll… a little steep for me, but would probably buy a can if i seen it on the shelf somewhere.
