Day 6 is really putting a toll on me. Hard to wash your truck and do yard work without a dip in. Got to stay stubborn and not give in.

Thanks Joel , I had no idea Walmart even carried anything, that will be way better than staring at the mailman all the time to see if he puts the fake dip in the box…I really don’t want to be the weirdo on the street who gives the mailman the stink eye ,it’s just withdrawal I promise lol.. Thanks again something wintergreen flavored right now would sure be good ill definitely give it a try.

On day 7 today, finally fell asleep befor 1 am last night , started using the grinds coffee pouches , they help with the craving some, it’s hard to give a positive review about them when you are used to having longcut wintergreen for the past 16 years, compared to wintergreen they taste like a paperbag soaked in piss, but … they do take the craving down some and they accually taste alright.. Peppermint is the best so far, thought about trying bacc off if I still need a crutch when I use up all these grinds, does anyone have any experience with the bacc off or have any other recomendations that works

Day 17…Doing pretty good today. A lot of the cravings have gone away and I feel pretty good. But I really do miss my little can of Grizzly. It has been a part of my life for 35 years and I still relate everything in life that is fun to dipping. Just going to be a learning process I guess. One day at a time

Capt Bill,

Your comment about family vacations made me chuckle. I just realized I’ll be packing for our next family vacation for the first time without hiding my tins. It’s the little things like that l, that make me realize how truly addictive I am to smokeless tobacco. Stay strong brother!!

Day 175 and I’m beginning to completely forget what it was like to be hooked on this stuff for 25 years. Strangely, this has been my first winter without being sick and I’m stronger and feel younger without changing any routine. Ultimately, I do miss it but I am so happy to no longer have that awful feeling when you realize you don’t have enough dip or need to figure out how to smuggle it on a family vacation. You all can quit; I did.

When i chewed i had a harder time getting to sleep usually but slept deeper and had weirder more vivid dreams. i would always wake up early because the nasty taste of chewing. It would leave my throat irritated and dry like when you have a cold or flu. I had almost forgot how bad that was. When i had maybe a few hours before bed and would take a chew and then brush my teeth and say thats the last one. Go lay down and not be able to get to sleep for hours and end up having to have another one or driving to the store in the middle of the night to get more then having to brush again.
I was having a tough time getting to sleep after i quit so i started exercising. Not pushing myself to the point of burnout but alittle more all the time. Now i have the motivation to want to push harder because im seeing the results. That really helps me get to sleep now. I have no doubt ill sleep good tonight. Besides the weights this morning i just carried a 300+pound log 200 yards on my shoulder(needed a bridge to get across the creek). I used to excercise when i chewed and after i would always pop in a chew and instantly become relaxed so i wasnt getting any benefits.

Hang in there brother it will get better. I am on day 23 and I use to sleep like a baby but since I quit I have been having issues. As far as fake dip goes I am not sure I would be this far without it. I use as I think is appropriate. I don’t think you need to be concerned about leaving in too long etc. Treat like real stuff and you will be fine. I am using Smokey Mountain Classic. I got some of their wintergreen and it is way too sweet and minty. Classic is sweet but tolerable. My opinion.

Stay Quit my friends.

Today is day 21 without anything and day 42 without chew. I smoked for a few weeks to help slow down the nic withdraw. I am having some sleeping issues which I am reading is very common. I did talk to my Dr before I quit and she put me on Welbutrin for one month to ease some of the anxiety/stress. The way she put it was that we use the nicotine to stimulate us and deal with the stress and it helps to temporarily replace it with something not as harmful. It seems to be helping and this quit has been easier than any in my past. I have been chewing for 25 years and quit several times but I honestly feel like this is last time. I hope the doc’s input helps someone and maybe makes your quit easier. All the best and never quit quitting.

Everything you are expecting is completely normal. Keep the fake dip in as long as you like, it doesn’t have nicotine and eventually you will no longer need it. Food begins to taste different, you are no longer assaulting your mouth w/ nicotine & the other billion ingredients contained in dip. Sleep is a huge problem, I struggled to sleep for what felt like an eternity. Stay the course, be strong, lean on the KTC resources & brotherhood. Don’t give up the fight and the three days you have won already. I always felt that once I got the night sweats that was my body telling me the nicotine in my system was purged. Just get through the day and remember a crave can last but a few minutes at a time. When they hit, have a plan, do push ups, walk, call or text someone, remember, it will pass shortly. Win the day!!!

Day 3 here and damn has it been the hardest yet. Looking forward to the end of day 3 where all the nic will be completely out of my system. I’ve read what to expect and know it differs by the person. But is waking up in the middle of the night for a minute or two expected? Also I have tried the fake chew mint snuff which helps with craves but don’t know much about it. How long am I suppose to leave them in for, and does it effect my taste buds because they seem to be a little different but that could just also be me w/o dip for three days.

Day 3 can’t wait for day 4.

Cody,
Regarding time seeming much faster, it is all part of fighting through the quitter’s fog. Everything seems much different for the longest periods of time. At some point you will get through the fog and life will start to seem normal again. Normal but without snuff, of course.

Grizzlymint, prayers for you and your family. I suggest writing a note to your family explaining how much you love them and what you are going through. It might help if you let them keep track of your bad outbursts. Later, when you are over your rages, you pay your family back for each outburst. Whether each outburst translates to a family steak dinner, or a night out, or something to help them endure and get something out of it in addition to your getting healthy. Make sure you are expressing your love and gratitude towards them more often than normal.

Day 15 today. Last night my wife said to me “won’t you go buy an effn can of Grizzly!”. I guess I’m being a big fat penis. I didn’t really think I had been being any shorter than usual but I guess so. I’m not giving in though! Sick of this demon can controlling my life! I think that’s why I’ll succeed this time is because I’m doing it all for me, and the Lord actually. Prayers for me to quit being a toolshed to my family would be greatly appreciated.

Day 26. Last few days have been pretty good, no breakdowns, no huge cravings, even the intense headaches are starting to diminish. Keep fighting everyone, it’s worth it. Does anyone else think time passes so much slower after you quit? Everything from a 30 minute sitcom to a day at work? Even my 26 days without dip seems like ages ago

I’ve Dipped for a little over 4 years now , and the way I see it , it’s either now or never . Had the Flu earlier this week didn’t even crave nicotine untill earlier today . I’ve never had the drive to quit really untill today either . I’ve went though a bag of seeds today and my mind and body is numb on top of being sick . You can’t just say you’re going to quit you have to believe in yourself TO quit
Day 3 of a lifetime to go

Had a bad weekend. Felt like crap, nothing to do with chew but i think im alot more sensitive when i catch a bug now. When i chewed i think i was more numb since it was a constant feeling down and not really giving a shit about anything. The only reason i bring it up is i wonder if thats that haze everyone talks about? All weekend i felt like a bum, didnt want to get out of bed or do anything. it felt like i was on something even though i only took nyquil the first night? my head felt fuzzy and i really was worried it was not Going away then Monday morning i woke up feeling great and back to myself. Been lifting weights, lots of energy. This morning just going through my pack seeing if theres anything else i want to take with me hiking/camping. Getting warmer here and soon ill be going on long hiking/ camping trips. Cant wait!!! If i was still chewing i wouldnt even care. I remember how burned out and depressed i always was when i chewed. 140 days.

On day 62 . Nothing makes u want to pick up a tin again the after 60 days of hell your dentist tells u they don’t see much improvement. There were only 2 reason I quit overall health of my mouth and 2 save money. Both which I am not seeing a difference in. For some reason even though I haven’t had a chew in 61 days no extra money.

Chewie picked me up the other day when I was struggling, I’ll try to do the same for you. The crave is & I think will always be there. It just diminishes with time but you can’t get complacent, remain vigilant and respect its power. Fight through the day and just remember no matter the pain of the moment, the shame of caving would hurt way more.

Hey heroes:

I’m a personal trainer on day 6. as everyone on here knows its been a bitch and a half. I swear to god I’m not selling a thing. But as I’ve found with most issues in my life working out and feeling better about myself in general has been the best medicine for me especially these last 6 days. I’m more than happy to write up some diet and workout plans absolutely 100% free for y’all as long as you promise to do the workouts I send you when u have free time and a craving hits. Send me an email Benjaminpconlin@gmail.com. I’m beyond happy to help plus it will help keep my mind off of things. Good luck to everyone. I hope I can help someone even just a little bit get through this shifty time.

Regards

Thanks from everyone for the encouraging responses yesterday. Yesterday was rough and then I spent 6 hours driving today. I don’t know about u guys but driving was my number #1 time best time to dip for the last 30 years. But I gritted my teeth and stayed strong somehow. Now that I checked the site….I am so glad that I did. One way or another, we are all going to get thru this but the last 2 weeks have been the worst time I can remember for a long time. Day 14….cant wait for 15

Started 30 years ago. Teeth came out, lost my jaw. Don’t do it! People look at you weird when I am out in public, not worth it. Times went by and I got so desperate I started chewing pine needles. I said F it and chewed again because you only live once. Keep on doing it… you know you want that great sensation in your mouth.

Day 3 and insomnia has got me, not sure if the extra caffeine from the coffee substitute dip has kept me up or if insomnia is just part of this crap journey…. Also I just had a nice greasy little Cesar pizza and I am really having to fight off the urge for my red seal wintergreen dessert.

Chaseman, I used nicotine gum the first 6 days of my quit. Started with 4 pieces on the first day and weaned myself off of it. I have one more piece I’ve kept in my truck since then. If I have a break down I’d rather have that last piece than a dip

Having a rough day today. I tried the fake dip and hated it. For me I think it is the Nic rush that I crave more than the fixation of having a dip in my mouth. I can not get it off my mind. Its like someone poking their finger in my chest all day long. I hope better days are a coming. Day 13 (maybe its because of the unlucky number today)

Matt, I am only on Day 17 so a newbee too but I found the first few days easier than week 2 which seems odd to me. If it wasn’t for the fake dip (Smokey Mountain Classic) I found in week 2 I am not sure I would be at day 17. Really helped me. I dipped for 35 years so it isn’t only getting over the mic craving but the habit of actually dipping. The mechanics of dipping, the feel of having in, etc. Stay Quit!!!!

Fun Fact:

If you dip a can a day then you are taking in the amount of nicotine that is in 80 cigarettes.

In order to smoke 80 cigarettes in a day, it would take you 13.3 hours (this is assuming that it would take you 10min to smoke one cigarette). Nicotine is the cause of withdrawal and is why most of our withdrawals last more than the standard 3-4 weeks.

Your brain, on this amount of nicotine, has been or is being re-wired to rely on an artificial substance that controls your mood. Scary stuff!

Chewie, I think I saw somewhere in here where you said you dealt with a descent amount of facial and jaw pain during your quit. Can you tell me a little bit more of what you went through? I am on day 33, and still experiencing spells throughout the day in regards to jaw, neck and facial pain. As well as day long headaches. Of course, I give myself anxiety when I sit and worry about them. Is there any light at the end of the tunnel?

Cody,
Nice move on trashing the tin. Stay quit no matter what you do. Keep checking out KTC. Read the articles. You’re 19 days free of nicotine and there will be more rough days ahead, but if you give in then you have to go thru all this crap again. It gets better. I chewed 25 years and I’m on day 318. Hang in there, it’s worth it!
