I am nearing the three year mark without Copenhagen. I am heavier than when I quit but I do not regret quitting at all. Best thing I have ever done. I hardly think of the stuff anymore but could see myself easily getting back in. I remain vigilant as I’ve come to far to ever go back. Saved several thousand dollars as a bonus.

Hey everyone, day 55 here and life couldn’t be better! After going through HELL my first 2 weeks, being at this point is well worth it. Aside from the occaisonal headache and mood swing life is amazing, and I’m so glad i battled through that hell I went through for the first few weeks. It really is a new life w/o dip and one that I find much more enjoyable. Nicotine is a stupid drug and one that can hold you captive. I am never turning back and packing another dip again, just because I realize how far I’ve come and can’t wait to see how far I’ll go. Best of luck to my fellow quitters, and if you have any questions at all feel free to ask! Stay strong, friends.

After about 9 years of dipping, I quit about a month ago. Sores and numbness on my tongue finally went away. Still have slight sore throat and post nasal drip it feels like. Day to day is rough but time is flying by. I have never chewed so much gum in my life. Hopefully that’s what the random jaw pains are from. It’s funny how I didn’t think twice about health related problems while I dipped, but as soon as I quit I think I’m dying.. Well good luck and stay strong everybody!

Hey everyone,

I got a question for chewie. Been dipping roughly a tin per day for about 6 years (go to is skoal pouches). I’m on day 3 of my quit and I notice that the one side of my throat is really sore. I have all the other withdrawal symptoms like the fog and stuff like that. I went to an ENT about 6 months ago and he said I was fine. Just concerned about the sore throat, could it just be irritation from the dip juices?

Hey guys I’m on day 350 today dip free, I never thought in a million years I would be able to give up dip but If I can do it so can you. The first few months suck but push through and dont give up. Expect the headaches, sweats, and mood swings, chest tightens and all that stuff know one said it would be easy. I’m coming up on 1 year and I have no cravings, withdraws, or any desire to go back to dipping. I hope this can keep someone from going back to dip becuase the feeling of being dip free is amazing and well worth it!

Matt, I’m having horrible sleep, waking up with heart racing, constant lightheadedness, severe acid reflux, occasional sweating when it’s not warm, depression from all of this. I’m on day 144. Doctors say all is normal.
I’ve been battling giving in for several days now, thinking a chew will make all this go away and I’ll feel normal again.

I get really insane sometimes during this quit. I hate myself for Taking my first chew, for living a lie for so long, for being dishonest to my family and friends. I want to beat myself to a pulp. All of this at day 28. Great!

Keep going. My has been shrouded by some level of secrecy since I 17. At the end of last year I as stricken with a sinus infection. I used it (for the amount of meds id be on) as an apportunity to quite. I’m made it five months. The Cravings are shocking in the sheer volume and intensity. Even today I was a string desire to dip.

I am going on 4 years and I check in on this site every now and again. (With tax season coming up I wanted a reminder of how much money I have saved ;-)) When I dipped it was a secret I kept from everyone I loved. 10 years I had that monkey on my back… almost a tin a day. I still have passing cravings… sometimes a little tingle on my tongue, others just a subconscious excitement when I see tins on display. Never again though. I was hooked and when I went CT for the second time the worst of the withdrawal symptoms were the headaches in the first few weeks. Eventually they pass and you can take comfort in knowing the beast you fought off. Whatever reason you find, remember: you can quit and stay that way. Keep up the good work!

So vitriol if u quit 4 years ago what the hell u doing here ?i chewed for 40 years, I have quit now for 6 months. There is still not a day goes by that I don’t think about it. I certainly don’t want to be quit for 4 years and still he coming back to this site. Sometimes I think I should just throw in the towel and pick up my habit again because after 6 months quit I have really never found the enjoyment in anything else except for sex that I have in chew. Sad to say but that’s how it is and how many people actually die from chewing really? Seems that most cancers are from smoking cigarettes and cigars including the deformed pics posted on this site? How many of those pics are actually from chewers vs. smokers ? I’m just asking cause after 6 months of being good I’m about ready to say fuck it and go buy a can and feel good again . So anybody have any words of wisdom to pull me back to the light?

I’m on day 425 and there is not a day I don’t think about dipping. I don’t know how many people die from dipping or chewing, but I have seen first hand the scars and patch work faces that it causes. Every time I think of dipping I think of my two year old and how when he grows up how embarrassed he would be to introduce his friends to his dad that has a patch work jaw or has to carry around a machine to help him breathe. Granted, my great uncle chewed everyday of his life and died of natural causes at the age of 95. My other great uncle smokes a half pack a day and is 90, so who the hell knows.

I am one day away from 900. Yay – not.

One thing I have learned to hate are the milestones.

For some reason, the days before and after a milestone are hard.

I feel the nagging at my gums. The question in my mind – do you remember.

Luckily for me, I am so practiced at turning my attention away from those thoughts that it bothers me little.

But it does bother me.

Remember to always keep your guard up.

I quit again today. Day 899.

Hi Jake,
Are you calling me out? 🙂
Something has changed with the comments on this site and I no longer see the most current comments. My apologies.

The main side effect or symptom I feel is the nagging at at my gums.

It is amazing that I have learned to eat, experience sadness, grief and misfortune without taking a dip.

It makes the joyous occasions that much better.

It makes time with friends and family that much better as you do not need to interrupt meeting occasions with nicotine intermissions.

I quit with you today.

No, I’m not calling you out. I have noticed that you and Craigselk66 aren’t posting as often anymore. It has been over two years for all of us since we’ve quit, so that is probably why the postings aren’t as often.

My main symptoms this far into my quit are headaches and tiredness. Anyone else with these same symptoms? I’m happy to hear that your only main symptom is nagging gums.

In terms of this site, I refresh the page and the new posts pop up so I can see the most current comments.

Keep up the good work! Jake.

On Day 6 here, this is my second quit, first time was 2007 I used massive amounts of chewing gum and the patch. I was out for almost 2 years. Some reason I decided to be dumb again during my annual two week obligation to the man.

I will admit I did use lozenges through Sunday, but Yesterday and Today have been CT with only some cinnamon mint snuff. I feel good, a little off, I want to brag to my wife but might just wait to see if she notices.

3 years ago today I was sitting in a dentist chair having a white spot on my gums looked at. I am 46 yrs old & my stupid ass started dipping when I was 10. I loved to dip, I mean fucking LOVED to dip. Right now, fuck all of that, I was scared to shit, swearing I was done with this shit if I was OK. The dentist came back & told me it was nothing to worry about. He asked me how long I had been dipping, I told him over 40 yrs. He looked down at me & simply said, “Don’t you think it’s time you quit?”. He said oral cancer won’t kill you but it will ruin your life. FUCK THIS I thought to myself, I have not had nicotine or tobacco since. NADDA, my asshole friends fucked with me at the start, calling me a pussy, blah, blah, blah. Blew it off & never caved. I found KTC & no doubt without it I would not have been able to quit. I used fake dips, still periodically do, still try new stuff. Teaza is awesome!!!!! These words are for you new or potential quitters, nothing will replace that shit you crammed in your face for years, so don’t whine about how nothing replaces what you use, nothing will. Find something to get you by, period. It sucks, big time, don’t be nic/tobacco bitch, make it your bitch, quit now, cold turkey!!!!! I stay quit after 3 yrs with you all today.

Thank you brother, it ain’t always an easy road, is it? Many congrats on your quit!!!! My words of wisdom still and will always remain the same. Only they (potential quitters) know if they REALLY wanna quit. If you don’t put it down this second, you ain’t serious & it’s all lip service. Find a fake dip to get you by & NO, nothing is like that comfortable nicotine & tobacco dip you held like a little baby in your lip for all of these years. No whining & hand holding here (well, maybe a little hand holding), only quitting!!!!!! Going on my 4th year of quit, I quit with you all today!!!!

Guys, I went 527 days w/o dip or cigarettes. On day 527, I decided to “try” it to see if I could handle it. I wanted to do a dip once a week, or just see if I could even withstand it’s addictiveness. Long story short, I went 3 days after this initial dip. The second dip- it was like I never quit. Don’t fool yourselves. Once you quit, don’t go back.

That beast lies dormant in our minds, never forget!

Day 10 of no tobacco. I feel 10 times better but have strong cravings a few times throughout the day. I’ve drank twice, and didn’t have too much desire to dip. My gums and inner lips feel almost new. I’m starting to sleep better, but I’m still having vivid dreams. I’ve gained about 10 pounds since I quit. Im the heaviest I’ve ever been (170). Bubba – I travel a lot for work also. It was the hardest part of quitting for me, long car rides – which is pretty much a weekly basis for me. It is all in your head. I am now at 222 days – just over 7 months quit and my biggest hurdle thus far is the long car rides….not playing golf, not getting drunk, not going crabbing/fishing but the long car rides when your mind can wander and you think to yourself nobody will ever know if I get a can and throw one in. It is all mental – my mind still wonders where that dip is when I am driving, but you must stay vigilant. It is really hard man, but you have to nut up. I chew the shit out of some gum and sunflower seeds.

I need to join a group to text daily reminders and affirmations. I’ve been off for only 53 days and already had a relapse day 15 days ago. Im battling every day trying to talk myself outta getting just one can or justifying a dip a week or something small but I know already where that leads. I’m reading about these guys who have group texts that they’re able to affirm that they won’t dip on a daily basis. If anyone would like to start one or be willing to let me join theirs I really would be appreciative. Never thought that the post physical addiction part would be so difficult. I want to stop, I need to stop, but I realize I need help.

IMO if you’re not ready to quit cold turkey, then you’re not really ready to quit. All it takes is some support from fellow quitters and a little will power. It’s 95% mental and 5% everything else. I dipped over a canna day for almost 24 years and walked away cold turkey when I REALLY got ready to quit. I was fed up and sick of it and on November 6, 2016 I decided that , that part of my life was pathetic and that it was over.

Bill, your comment is spot on and simple. “I am not going to do this to myself and my loved ones any further…I am done”. I quit December 27, 2016, after twenty years. Commit, read this site, take it one day at a time, and never look back. The freedom it brings is worth it.

Hey man, so I’ve quit about 4 times in my life I am 20 years old and have been dipping a can a day for about 6 years now. The longest I’ve gone for quoting was 107 days and each time I went cold turkey I was thinking this time and FINAL time I want to do it differently because the past speaks for itself, the cold turkey doesn’t work for me but for others yes, I was thinking about going on some nicotine gum and then slowly using less and less until I’m completely off. So my question is should I do it or do you know of other ways.

I just had my roof redone and by a great group of roofers. I noticed they all dipped and a few were missing their bottom teeth.

I felt good that:
– I did not miss dipping
– that I felt no longing for that round can
– that I felt sorry for those that are still beholden to the nic bitch
– that the longer I am quit the less I think about the damn habit

It feels great to be free.

It took me 40 plus years to get here.

For those of you who are not quit, I pray that you get to the point that you realize that it is not just helping with your day to day life. It is terrible to get to that point but you need to get there.

Praying you find the strength to just stop and say enough.

Praying that nothing causes me to flounder and that I remain vigilant forever.

I quit with you today.

Hello,

Today is day two of no dip. I started smoking when I was 17, and turned to dip. I enjoyed dipping so much more than smoking. Anyway, I sipped about 1 1/2 cans a day. And I’m off of it cold turkey. I’m a full-time firefighter and I can’t sleep. I feel okay. In the last two days, I’ve been an ass to my gf (I’ve apologized a ton) and pretty much been an emotional roller coaster. I hope it gets better soon.

Is this common or am I just crazy? I use to be so energetic and now im just off. I have 2 young kids and wife that I love and I feel like an asshole for dipping this long (10 years). Hey EOEO,
I hear ya man. I’ve been dipping now, hmm..24 or so years. I quit once for about a month as I had to for surgery. I regret starting again after going cold turkey. Now, like you I just don’t feel good or like myself. Drained, lethargic, just lazy, IDK, but I never feel like doing much. I also fear the cancer issue. My gums also seemed to come back towards normal when I quit for the month but they are back down to the bone basically. I had awesome dental insurance at one time and they wanted to do skin grafts but I was still dipping, so I didn’t see the purpose. Now, I feel ready to quit and become healthier if it is not too late. Then, I will too see a dentist, and see what I can do to get my mouth back in better shape. My once white, nice teeth are still there but hanging on by a thread and I would hate to lose them-or anymore of them. I started dipping working at the fire department- many years ago. Now, I am in nursing school and KNOW what it is doing to me. What a dummy right! So, I am online looking at nicotine free replacement dip like Hooch or Nip. I have tried the Nip It and like that so I will get some of that and maybe try the Hooch too. Good luck and I will say what I always hear people say and it may or may not be factual.. they say to think positive and decrease the sressing because that alone will cause physical symptoms-that i know to be true. Your healing and you have to try to find a way to lower stress and worry-i like walking or running (if I could run but not now). Try taking a 20 min. walk in the am or evening alone or with family. it made me feel so good. It releases natural endorphins that are your bodies natural pain killers and mood enhancer. Good luck.

EOEO, I don’t how common this behavior is, I’ve been on this site now for 261 days. When I first quit I did the same thing. I feel like I visited every doctor and dentist in town. I had insomnia over it for weeks, and crazy anxiety. The good news, it all kinda goes away. Just trust your doctors, try to relax, and stay busy. You’re ok today, and you’re going to be ok tomorrow, and so on. Congrats on the Quit, and keep it up.

Hi guys it’s been 31 days since my last dip, I quit cold turkey (this is hard) I gone to 2 dentist appointments they all say tissue and gums look great and gone to 3 doctor appointments they say im good, but i keep thinking I have cancer of the mouth, every night I look in the mirror with a flash light and see something new or feel something new, I’m going crazy, and to make things worst I keep reading things online that are negative, like you will get oral cancer because you dipped. Is this common or am I just crazy? I use to be so energetic and now im just off. I have 2 young kids and a wife that I love and I feel like an asshole for dipping this long (10 years). I don’t know what to do and im only 33 years old. This is hard.

Well I was 36 days deep and relapsed with a couple of pinches this past week on guys weekend. I’ve already flushed the rest of the can and started at day 1 on Sunday. Feeling a lot stronger so far, knowing what I’m expecting has made it a lot easier, but I’m extremely pissed at myself for wasting those 36 days of pain only to start over again. But start over again I will. My only goal is never to put that shit in my mouth again. Fucking hate how weak willed I was this weekend, but it only strengthens my resolve to quit for good.

Well it’s day 34 and still feel like crap. Anxiety has been bad going to bed give out and waking up early in morning not able to go back to sleep suck. But not giving up I know this will get better at some point. When I feel real bad I just start reading post from everybody and that seems to help more than anything.

My last dip was Jan.19th at 11:35 pm, I was chewing a can and a half a day. I have been chewing tobacco for 25 years. I think I had help stopping and not craving it because I have been sick but now that I am feeling better I still don’t crave it.

My last dip was on 1/22/18, and I was dipping a can a day. I’ve been dipping a little over 20 years, so I understand what you are going through. I’m not craving it, but I still think about it a lot. The only thing I can’t seem to get past now is an insatiable appetite. I’m going to gain 20 pounds in a month if I do not get this under control. . .

Patches are just a different form of putting Nicotine back into your body and is no safer than dipping. This is a COLD TURKEY site. If you really want to quit bad enough then you will nut up and walk away cold turkey. You don’t need some patch or any other kind of crutch if you are really done with it. If you cant walk away cold turkey then you may as well keep on dipping because you are not really ready to quit and will only cave and will have made yourself miserable for however many days until you do cave, for no reason at all.

This isn’t a cold turkey site it’s a support group. Posting that negativity isn’t going to help anyone. Just cause you can quit cold turkey doesn’t mean others can. Support eachother for wanting to better ones life

You have obviously never read the “rules” of this site. This IS indeed a cold turkey site, always has been and always will be. Sorry to hurt your feelings but if you cant walk away cold turkey then you are not really ready to quit, period. I dipped for almost 24 years at a rate of over a can a day and I’m coming up on a year and a half dip free thanks to those same “rules” of this site and just flat out getting sick of being a slave to the can. It CAN be done, you just have to want it bad enough. Quitting is 95% mental and 5% everything else.

No feelings were hurt here. I’m on day 4 of quitting cold turkey. Not sure where these “rules” you speak of are located on this site since I’m still new to finding it. Just was stating some people need different kinds of help. Nicotine is the most addictive substance so needing some help to reduce the amount of nicotine receptors in your body to make the quit easier or long lasting is what certain people need. Again not how I handled it personally but was speaking for other potential quitters who might have needed the help and came to the site looking for support not to be put down for needing nicotine replacement.

Reply to  Bill Dance

Study right here shows you wrong. Don’t slam others with a since of superiority because you did it “The Hard Way”. Some people will need that “crutch” and it does help. I’ve tried to quit several times. The time I used patches actually stuck. I also have no clue where you get they aren’t any safer than dip. Nobody is arguing they are harmless but compared to the level of tobacco most new quitters go through they are much less harmful.

I get but posting roll while on the patches because you aren’t quit but to outright discourage a scientifically proven method to stop that is shown to have a 4 times higher quit rate than your method is either idiotic or dangerous depending on your motivation. If you’ve discouraged even one person who couldn’t go cold turkey from trying patches or other ntr because of this rant that’s on you.

Much like Doug S I hit my 200 day mark on Jan 31. I feel great. My head is clear, my body feels strong, and most importantly my teeth and gums feel normal again. I dipped for 25 years and finally had enough last summer. I work out 4 times per week and mix in a little meditation and yoga. It’s done wonders for my performance at work and my personal life. I am still using the fake stuff from time to time but it’s a small price to pay IMO. Hope to be rid of that sooner than later. Stay strong ya’ll.

Been clean for two weeks now, my company started to hit tobacco users with a 20 dollars per pay deduction. Which is 40 dollars a month (480.00 dollars a year). Next year would be the same, so instead of taking these hits I’ve decided to quit, I’ll miss my Grizzly Dark Wintergreen and my Cope Snuff, but I can’t keep taking those hits. I’m fortunate enough where I never felt addicted, I have no withdrawal Symptoms, I did it just for fun and being bored. Wish the best for all of you. (Dipper 12yrs)

Happy to say I’ve made it to 151 days quit. It’s been a roller coaster but I’ve made it this far so I’m happy about that. I’ve noticed over this span of time Ive been sleeping a lot more and I feel like I’ve had a cough all winter. Not sure if that’s related to the quit or not. Maybe it’s just my body healing. I quit with you all don’t give up!!

So today marks 64 days. The first 50 days were hell. I had anxiety, panic attacks, chest pain, weak spells, shaky muscles, weak Muscels, fatigue, headaches, dizzy spells. Non stop every day, I went to the hospital and did ekg and blood work everything was beautiful. Then all the sudden after 50 days I got better. I felt normal with occasional symptom here and there but I was getting through days normal again. Then day 55 came or so and I have now gone right back to square one. Weak spells, shaky muscles, fatigue, fog, anxiety, chest pain. Right when o thought I was out of the water I get nailed. Is this normal? I am getting exercise, I’m eating better it’s just so relentless. Need some assurance here from someone who has experienced this or had recurring symptoms after they faded a bit

Day 304…getting better every day! DD – Yes, it is quite normal to have those symptoms sneak up on you throughout your quit. I assure you it will get better and the days between those odd episodes will span further apart. When will it stop all together? I don’t have the faintest idea as I still have mild episodes occasionally. I think it depends on the person. The key thing is to not panic when it happens. I’ve conditioned myself to just say it’s my body healing and it will pass. Good luck and keep it up!!!

I’m at 512 days as of today. Same as you on and off first 100 days. Then good till 160 or so. After 200 a lot easier. You can get there and will just hang in there. Most people have the same problems or they say no problem at all. I dipped the crap for 48 years, it will pass and get better. Post roll every day early as you can. You will be great when your body gets it’s stuff together.

Day 881 and if i can you can. Started dipping in my early teens and quit when i was 45. I wasn’t a heavy dipper usually a can every 3 days. Was resigned to the fact i was going to be a lifer. Then a divorce received custody of my kids and thought if i die from dipping i would be the jack ass of all jack asses. So i quit and now do not even think about it and although i used the fake stuff my use now is just a teaza when i exercise. I am know different then all of you other then there is 881 days since my last dip.

Day 1 starts right now. Dipped for 6 years and today decided to drop it for the first time. This website has given me the courage to battle. I read every last comment and now i ask for your prayers. Its sounds like a tough journey but im going to do it for me and my family. I wont be the father, husband, uncle, or brother that died from dipping. The support here is what i have been looking for, so thank you. First thing i am going to do tomorrow when i get to work is empty every last log in the trash can.

Ill be updating you all on this journey. If youre reading this right now and youre on the fence on quitting… Quit with me right now. Find something deep inside your heart and use that as motivation to quit just as i am right now.

Again, thank you for this site. I wouldnt be in this state of mind without it.

I’ve dipped for 20+ years with only minimal stoppages. I was looking on the web for tips on how to quit and ran across this site. Did you guys find it best to quit cold turkey or is it better to weed yourself off dip? I really want to quit for my family and health reasons, but I just haven’t been able to do so. Do you use anything like nicotine patches when you first start? I’d appreciate any tips you can give. Thanks.
