This comment is for Athena. I can’t figure out how to leave one directly for you, sorry. I am day 34, I have been a bi-polar hag for about a week, my poor children. I am not giving in though! I will just have to work through this. I wanted to tell you that the best thing that has helped me is smokey mountain herbal snuff. If I keep my lip loaded, I do not think about chewing. Hang in there!

Hey guys, my names Athena and today will be my first day to quit chewing tabacco. I am a female and I’ve been addicted for 5 years now… I’m scared… I’m feeling very anxious, frustrated, annoyed and tired… my mouth feels dry and the urge is getting very over whelming. Help 🙁

Well, since I can’t go to my quit group, I guess I will post roll here. I am on day 48. I am feeling more irritable and craving a little, I can assure you that my quit is stronger that the urge. So, with my family and health as my motivation, and a can of smokey mountain classic in my pocket, I am ready for another day.

I have to agree. Nic gum did nothing but enable my addiction. I had to throw it away. After 33 years of use, smokey mountain (for me), was the only thing that helped besides the people on this site.

Day 11, I’m 17 and have dipped a can of Copenhagen wintergreen a day for the past 3 years. Decided to just up and quit cold turkey the day I ran across this site. I raked the dip I had in out and threw all of my cans away. Today I was very Irritable, Tired and just kept thinking about one pinch, but I’m not Gona give in. I have been using smokey mountain when I need it and seeds. I’m not sleeping very much and when I do get to sleep I wake up randomly during the night, any advise? -Ron

Fucking tits ladies and gentlemen, been a minute since I’ve dipped but the withdrawal symptoms are hell, everything that is listed is happening, push through that shit and say go fuck yourself nicotine, stomach pains are the worst for me only because I love to eat and nausea kicks in, fuck me to the land of dorthy and back but I told that old can who he can’t fuck with, fuck nicotine and if you ever think about starting you’re only killing yourself and you’re a huge fuckwad, cannabis seems to help a lot with nausea just don’t go smoking a whole bowl and have a craving kick in otherwise it’s back to square one! Good luck and I’ll enjoy seeing eveyone on the other side!

Didn’t sleep much last night. My brain is telling me to go to the gas station and give up – not gonna happen. Ran this morning, drank 64 ounces of water. Time to end 20 years of Kodiak.

Hard day. I want to be a quitter. I read that I should not drink. Mistake made. Lesson learned. Need to make it through the night.

Is this the right place to post? I feel like I’m alone but that’s okay. (San Diego)

62 days quit. Starting to feel really good. I went through a bout of depression for about a month, but that’s over now. I have been using Hooch to help with cravings. The past week or so I haven’t even really felt the need for the fake stuff. Just know for those of you wanting/thinking of quitting…it will be tough, but every day gets easier and easier.

Day 1: hope this works! I’m 19 and have been habitually dipping for 3 and a half years. I think it’s a nasty habit but I am quitting primarily to save my teeth. I know a few guys that have had their bottom teeth fall out and I sure as hell don’t want that to happen. I have already noticed receding gum lines. Fingers crossed!

Rob

3 weeks off. Started with a prescription for Wellbutrin (which really helped) and now I use bacc-off straight pouches for the oral fixation. Nicotine withdrawal is gone. Nothing really comes close to grizzly straight flavor but the bacc off straight pouches with a little coffee soaked in them does the trick every morning drive. To all those who surf blogs like these like I used to do hoping for the best way to quit I have to tell you there is no “best way”. We’ve all stumbled and tried to quit before. We’ve all put one in only to instantly regret it later and feel guilty about it. We’ve bought a can then thrown it out the window just to go buy another one. Lies to our relatives and significant others that we have quit have made us feel guilty as well. But for me I realized that I had to scare the absolute crap out of myself in order to quit. That’s just how hard headed I am. I saw every statistic and every biopsy and every picture. I made myself look at them. Now I know that seems drastic and it really is actually but everyone needs to find a reason to quit and I mean a personal one. Not the one where you know you should quit because its bad for you. Make it personal. Make it as scary as your addiction. Make it stronger than your addiction.I have so much I want to see and do in life. Why waste it on something that controls me and slowly destroys me? And then for me that’s when I acted on my need to quit tobacco. For all those who are still stumbling or haven’t yet quit keep this in mind: Success stories aren’t for bragging rights. They are there to prove to you that there is an endgame. That you can win. Find your reason. Write it on your freaking bathroom mirror and stay loyal to it. When you conquer something new everyday it builds your self confidence no matter what that something is. When you conquer addiction not only do you build your confidence and character as a whole but you redefine your presence as a human being as a whole.

It’s so depressing hearing about people on day 70+ or 190+ or what everyday talk about how bad they still have cravings . I’m on day 4 , can’t sleep can’t think and honestly thinking about killing myself just to get it over with. I quit before for 10 days and it was the worst 10 days of my life . I’m 20 years old been dipping for 2.5 years can plus a day and I don’t ever plan on having a dip but I lost over 80lbs (334-260 ) in months chewing helped me do it . Now that I’m not plus dieting and working a shit job . I think suicide would just be easier . Life’s not worth living like this. What if u make it 200 days ? Still craving everyday ? What’s the point ? To suffer the rest of your life away ?? Thinking I should just end it . I’m so dn tired but I CANT SLEEP . I have work in the morning running on no sleep this is the worst . I’m done

I am on day 52 and I feel good. I am proud of myself for being tough and showing myself I have will power. I am glad nothing controls me. I do think about it everyday but It has gotten very easy and life is nearly normal. I dipped about two cans a day for about 16 years. I am glad I quit and I will never get myself back in that addiction hole.
You will never know how you will feel at 70, 90, or 1000 days if you don’t quit.

Anyone know any close alternatives to Cope Straight? I’m in college and my old roommate got me started and I’ve been going for about a year and a half. I’ve quit on and off for a few weeks straight twice before, but I used to be a health nut until school got stressful, which is ironic since I’m going into the medical field. Just trying to beat my excuses and quit now and get back to the feeling good the right way.

Day 6 cold turkey, I did a 24 hour detox of nothing but lemon and water and haven’t had any noticeable problems aside from anxiety an unholy urge to put something in my lip. I just ordered some nicotine free snuff and hopefully that will be enough to get me through work. I’ve been dipping for 8 years and the only time I quit was basic training and even then I snuck a few cans in. In case anyone wanted to know a production platform in the middle of the gulf is a terrible place to quit.

Canadian chewer here trying to plan the quit but know for fact i cant quit cold turkey from past attempts. and with chew prices here exploding to 25$ a tin now is the time. i have tried smokey mountain in the past but its just chalky to me and falls apart in the mouth. looking into ordering Jake s mint chew but just wondering what helped you guys get past the habit part of an empty lip

I’ve used both Jakes mint chew and Smokey Mountain, I’d say the Smokey mountain worked better for me. I quit 114 days ago.
Here’s how I quit. I got a prescription for Chantix which I used for 6 weeks when I felt I would be able to continue my quit without it. if I didn’t take the Chantix I would never have been able to quit. I’ve been hooked for 31 years and could never have done it on my own. Even now I still get these feelings not cravings that I should be doing something but it’s just that I’m missing that habit of chewing. What ever way you choose remember quitting for just 2 days is better than not quitting at all, you see, I’m on my second quit now. I tried to quit cold turkey 2 years ago bit failed due to poor planning. Good luck with your quit .

137 days today brothers and sisters, I recently had my quit challenged again by taking an almost 5 hour road trip. In the car is when I would chew the most, and i made it a point to NOT take any “road trips” in the last 137 days. It was so hard to sit in the drivers seat and drive and not have a dip. Luckily I had gum and plenty of water.

Colleen

Day 8! I still want a chew, just not as whacko about it. The first 3 days were definitely the toughest. My kids poked fun at me, I was happy, mad, happy, mad, happy, mad. . . I still am a little that way. The fake chew really helps. I have chewed for over 27 years about a can a day, but I had no idea what with-drawls would be like. It wouldn’t have been wise for me to drive the first three days. Now here is the funny part I have to deal with, I have gained over 10 lbs in 8 days. I have always eaten a lot, but I’m not eating any more than usual, I am just gaining! I guess I will have to deal with being fat once I get chewing licked.

128 days brothers. 5 months dip free and feel great. Not as many canker soars, and I have found Eclipse gum is better than any of the fake chews. Still think about chewing just about daily. It’s kinda sad that I don’t really have any “memories” with my 2 boys or 2 girls w/out a vivid picture of having a dip. Here is a raise of my glass to making some dip free memories with my children, and now that I’m dip free and (knock on wood) cancer free, I’m sure I’ll be making them for many years to come. I’m sure all of the former dipping dads can agree we all loved chew, but love our children more.

Been dipping for 13 years at 2-3 tins a day. Yes 2-3 tins a day. Ive tried Chantix, wellbutrin, and no DR seems to be able to help. Ive quit 10 times all for short times. I am recently looking at a promotion at work and absolutely have to quit, not to mention my gums are fading away. I tried the patch but still dip just as much. My plan is to try 2 patches and try a fake dip, I think most of it is physical for me. Hopefully this works but I am up for any suggestions from anyone. Much appreciated

This is all truly helpful, I have tried quitting maybe 10 times. The fact Im a single 35 year old hasn’t given me much motivation and Ive always started again even more than before. Im now looking at a promotion at work, and have had enough failures Even with a patch on I think I can dip less, but after putting a small one in I say F this and fill my mouth up. 2 tins a day for 13 years, Ive tried Chantix and Wellbutrin. No DR has been able to help me. I am going to try putting several patches on and using the Smokey mountain snuff, that seems to be the consensus. I think the physical aspect is much of my problem. I am at a transition point in my life where I absolutely need to quit. If my plan doesn’t work Im open for any suggestions, or am I just too weak? Thanks

Day 24 I think, Day 20 without nicotine (i used nicorrette for the first 3/4 days then realized I was treating it just like chew). Last night was the first night I did not dream I took a chew. I ended up sleeping better, and woke up not feeling guilty about breaking my streak, although I never actually took a dip, in my dreams I thought I had, and have awoken almost every morning for the last 3 weeks thinking oh well, day one again. Striving to make it, the Smokey Mountain continues to help, but now I am getting concerned that I am just replacing the nicotine with the herbal. Will it be just as hard to quit the herbal?

Day 36 of being dip free. I went on a website called TLG Canada and ordered Hooch Tobacco/Nicotine Free Chew. It has really helped. There are many flavors and a few different brands. I initially bought a variety pack with all of the flavors (mint, cherry, wintergreen, classic, whiskey, spitfire. I ended up buying more of the spitfire because it has pepper in it that causes a slight burning sensation similar to what a real dip would feel like. It’s not the same as putting in a real dip but it has really helped me curb the cravings. https://www.tlgcanada.com/categories.php?category=Tobacco%252dFree-Chew
