55 days free from chew. The past couple weeks have been better, still using the fake stuff all the time. My biggest problem is sleeping. I feel like I haven’t had a full night sleep forever. Please tell me that gets better. Had a very bad day today and smoked a cigarette, now I just plain stink. Not sure if it helped or not. Still no desire for a chew which is a victory I’m sure.

I did contact my EAP at,work and went and seen an addiction councillor. That helped a lot. Going to continue seeing him for a,while. If your struggling, might be something to consider. Hope everyone is doing good.

Also, what is the trick for the chat on here. Can’t ever get it to load up.

i quit for 22 hours one day, stayed real busy all day withdrawls not too bad i must say. When i laid down for bed, instantly my heart started beating so hard out of my chest, i thought it was literally going to explode.. I got up and got a dip things calmed down. Anyone else heart beat extremely hard like that. Also I am looking for unique ways that people have quit. I liked the 3/4 smokey with 1/4 grizz method that was pretty clever, i thought of trying that myself, but man that taste is hard to bare. Any other unique ways people have quit?

Ross, absolutely have had the beating heart issue. You’ve been tricking your heart for as long as you’ve used. Now no nicotine…heart is trying to reset its rhythm. I saw a doc and he’s got me on a very low dose BP med to help. Won’t be forever…

Well on day 6 on my quit. It hasn’t been as hard as I was thinking. I dipped for 22 years(around a can a day). Each day seems to get easier. I wanted to say that I really love the idea behind this website. Keep on keeping on and quit the dip!!

Doing the double whammy, nicotine and caffeine in one one go. Day 1 cold turkey. Ten years plus of dip and lord only knows of soda. So far taking a nice long walk helps the most with the anxiety and the cravings. Sometimes I feel like just taking off running for no reason. I can’t wait for this all to pass.

24 hours free…in I can’t remember how long exactly, and I don’t remember why I have restricted myself of that buzz. The only thing I have to grip on to is the known rational thought that it actually does make me more of an anxious disaster in the long run. That’s a very loose grip when you want that buzz so bad and it’s the only thing to seemingly look forward to. I’ve only used it for about 3 years, but the last year has been pretty heavy at about a tin a day on average. I did not expect my body to stay that wide awake all night the first day without it, but I surely can’t wait for this stage to be over and to remember why I’m doing this altogether.

I’m on day 3 of quitting..it’s been rough for me so far. Me and my girlfriend has been bickering back and forth and I just feel lousy right now. It’s hard when you got people around you that don’t know what it’s like to be addicted to nicotine or try to quit it. But I’m this far in already I might as well keep going. Today has been the hardest cause I’m working and not out doing something. I’m an office worker so I could chew when I worked and today not having a dip is really killing me. I’m chewing the sunflower seeds like crazy and they help but I do have the withdraws today causing an upset stomach so they’re not helping as much as they did the first 2 days.

So Day one is here. After 20 years I got off it for 5 when I stopped drinking…still don’t drink but been back on for last 3. Not sure why but Im sure stress played a role and I got pulled back in HARD…tin a day immediately. Ive got to do it this time and since I have before I know I can again. I read the posts and I know I’m not alone in this…So inspired to see those of you in the hundreds of days still posting on here…I guess I wanna say thanks because I’m feeling better about my decision reading what u all write. Well I would first have an end date – Something you can remember ( a birthday / holiday or other big event) 2) Get some Smokey Mtn Wintergreen. 3) Track your progress for milestones of tobacco not controlling you. 4) If you are really having a hard time hang up pictures of people with mouth cancer around our house. That should do it. You can’t dip forever so might as well do it before your teeth and gums fall out first.

I quit over two days ago. Now on hour 60, I did it cold turkey. I’m 21 chewed a tin a day since I was 16. It’s hard but buying sunflower seeds helps you tremendously on thinking about a dip. It’s all about just having something in your lip.

Hey you all I’ve been dipping a can a day for like 5 months and every night I keep telling my self no more dip it’s tearing up my gums and my lip, this shit is bad for me why am I doing this.. I tried gum, sunflower seeds and it doesn’t seem to help. But the main problem I’m having to quit nicotine is when I go to a party, my drunk ass can’t resist a cigarette, or dip when I have a beer. Idk maybe I should quit drinking but you know as well as me that ain’t gona happen. I don’t smoke when I’m sober, I only dip. My girlfriend hates it, its sucks not being able to kiss your gf because my breath smells like cope wintergreen. I am open for suggestions if anyone can relate please give me some tips to quit this shit because I cant.

Well, I quit chewing today.. I smoked from age 16-18… When I had my daughter, I quit because I didn’t want her to receive the second hand smoke.. So of course I started chewing.. I’ve been chewing for 3 years now, and today I’m quitting. It’s been the longest 6 hours of my life. Not gonna lie, the comments are scary. people saying it was 100 days before it got better!? Ahhhh. Anyways, I’m scared I’m gonna fall through with this and give in, I’m reading these comments in hopes that it will motivate me to keep going. My boyfriend quit and hasn’t chewed in a week.. And now it’s my turn.

Hello everyone,
Just checking in, I am at 18 days without a dip and feeling the urge right now. Figured I would post to keep my mind off it. I ran out of my fake shit, and have already ordered more on-line as it isn’t sold anywhere close to me. I’m nervous about what I’m going to do until it arrives… The dumbest thing that I was seriously contemplating was to buy a can until the fake stuff gets here. I try to justify it by saying its only until the other stuff gets here. Gonna be a tough couple days, but I’m not going to start over now. I hope everyone is continuing to fight for themselves and not letting the cravings get the best of them. God Bless.

Mike, I’ve been watching your comments, as yours were the first I read when I happened upon this site. Keep with it bud! I ran out of SM, but I remembered we have a whole patch of wild mint growing outside. So I dug into that.
In 41 minutes, I’ll have gone a week. A little hazy at times, but OK. A lot of people are looking at the 100 days, but remember that the urges and withdrawal symptoms will vary. I only have seven days chew free, but I simply am not going back. Too many years of hiding it from my wife, avoiding the dentist, nightmares about dying of cancer … I am done. I’m told that 21 days is really significant as well. Keep with it. You’re kicking its ass!

Thanks Steve, I have gone through all the same things as you in regards to the wife and dentist. Actually the first 7 days were the hardest for me, and you are there! Once you get past that you just need to have things in place when the craving hits! I’m not a fan of SM, I really like those Wintergreen Tea Bag Mint pouches from Oregon, as it tastes as close to the Skoal Pouches I used to use, but luckily they arrive pretty quickly in the mail. Keep up the good work, and let me know if I can ever help you brudda! Take care and stick with it!!

Coming up on 48 hours dip free after doing it since I was 15 and turning 30 in a few months. Found an article about a long time dipper that had it spread so fast he died within 4 months of being diagnosed with cancer. Didn’t even see his daughter graduate and having a 2.5 yr old little girl who is my life I decided time to make a change. Using grinds from shark tank and really would suggest them! Good luck everyone and great supportive site. Can’t believe how bad that stuff really hooked u!

On day 315 today, have saved over 1800 dollars. It was the best being able to pay for a vacation this year, and has memories dip free with my boys and wife in NC at the beach. The 11 hour drive sucks dip free but plenty of dentine ice gum helped a lot. Also my dentist has recommended using dental floss sticks when I have the urge in the later stages of the quit. Go for it brothers, turn to this site when u feel life pressing hard, and know we have all been there before.

Well, here I go again. I am 24 years old and have been dipping since I was 15. I have “quit” before for a few weeks but went back to it during busy times in college. I could not study for anything without a fatty in. I have been a working man for 6 months and dip even more now. Yesterday I went to walgreens and bought some nicorette gum. I didn’t dip all day until last night when I rewarded myself from the 1/2 can I had left. But today, I left it at home, and every time I feel the craving I just toss in a piece of gum and chew the hell out of it till it goes away. It’s helped so far. We’ll see how it goes. Wish me luck. 1 day down

Like Chewie said the gum will help but you need to eventually get off that. I used the gum for about a month mixed with sugar free regular gum. After a while I cut back on the nic gum but kept chewing the regular gum. I only wished I had quit when I was 24. You are my hero..you have your whole life ahead of you…nicotine free!

First few days were wicked, but on day 7 now and I am feeling better than I have in a long time. Breath doesn’t stink, teeth stay clean…and by the way, I am never going thru the first 72 hours again. The fog for me was the worst. Felt like I had been drinking and never sobered up! This website has been a huge help. Lots of trident and bottled water. Didn’t like the idea of weening off and using the nic gum…just rip the band-aide off! Best of luck to everyone with their quit and to hell with nicotine/tobacco/dip!

I quit on 8/25 after 18 years of 1 can a day. Going cold turkey made me pretty sick for about 4 days, so I took off from work and sat on the couch drinking water. Starting day 12 today. I have cravings, but quitting is very doable.

Just ordered my first sample log (I hope Smokey Mountain is good). Never considered myself as a nicotine addict until I threw in a lip only two hours after anxiously wondering if that small spot on my cheek was a bad sign… I started dipping 8 years ago because I thought I was a badass teenager. Figured I would outgrow it by the time I finished college. Nope.

I’ve been lingering around this site for a few days now and decided to dive in head first for a better me and a more peaceful future (I get anxious every so often about the dangers of dipping). I tried Jerky chew today but it didn’t do much for my craving since I couldn’t spit it.

I can’t wait for my samples to arrive (couldn’t find them at any stores) so I can get my journey started with this group. I’m glad I found this group. Thank you to the creators and members, I know this will be the turning point for me.

Just ordered my first sample log to kill the can (I hope Smokey Mountain is good). Never considered myself a nicotine addict…until I threw in a lip only 2 hours after anxiously wondering if that spot on my cheek could be cancerous. I started dipping 8 years ago and thought I would grow out of it after college. Nope. Still addicted to the Nic Nip.

Can’t wait for the alternative chew to get here and get my journey started with this group. Glad I found this site.

I started dipping when I was 14 I’m now 26…since I was 18 I’ve been a 2 can sometimes 3 cans a day dipper. I quit for the first time this January and only made it a month and I was right back to 3 cans a day as I lay here tonight with a dip in I want it to be my last for my health for the money and for my family…I always said I could quit anytime no problem but I know this will be the hardest thing I have ever done in my
Life. But I want tomorrow to the be first day of the rest of my life dip free, I envy all of you that have quit and stayed quit and tonight when I spit this last one out I’m vowing it to be the last one I ever have. I’m not one to pose on websites like this but

We are with you dude. I’m at day 79 and with you 100%. Let us know if you need help. Stay strong. I’ve found there are 2 parts to the addiction. The nicotine chemical is probably the worst because it physically craves you the other is throwing in that dip and gettin that calming feeling. The fake stuff can help with that. Read everyone’s comments and stay strong brother!!! You can do it if you want to and because you are reading this YOU WANT TO.

Greetings, I joined the website but can’t figure out how to post anywhere but here. So I’ll give it a shot. Started dipping at 12. I am 51. Skoal is now $6.12 a can where I live. I dipped Skoal 99% of the time but would mix it with Cope Snuff. Quitting has always been very easy for me in the past. Starting again was the problem. Anyway, I’m 15 days off the dip. BUT, I have a 21 mg patch on my arm and 2 mg gum when it gets bad. I do have a script for Chantix but have not taken any and frankly I am afraid to because of the side effects. I hope to get through October with the patch and gum and once all the other poisons are out of my system, I will then battle the nicotine one on one. It’s a much more fair fight. I think all the other crap in the dip is as hard to get off of as the nicotine. Maybe I’m wrong. One positive thing so far is that I’m able to eat breakfast now and I drink 10x more water. I have had a headache everyday and the fog is bad. Even with NRT. Today is tough and that’s why I’m here. My oldest son just married a sweet gal and I’d really like the grandkid to see me with teeth and a jaw. I doubt if I post again so wish me luck as I wish everyone here luck. This stuff has controlled my every move for many years. I have been completely honest in this post. Which is very hard.

Rick. It’s ok. The cravings are terrible. My wife and kids- yea I’ve got 3 all said I was terrible to live with and almost wished I had kept dipping. I turned into a bear and bit their heads off routinely. Anyway I decided to get a crutch this time to help me with the withdrawal. I know everyone says COLD TURKEY is the best, but obviously I couldn’t handle CT, so I went down to walmart in the middle of the night and bought a 100 pack of nic gum 4mg strength. I did some research and found that a dip was about 4-5 mg of nicotene. I used these about a month with the strongest sugar free gum I could find to get me over the hump. When I had 3 left I found I was over the cravings. Anyway I know some people will say that’s the pussy way to do it but I say anything that gets you to 30 days dip-free is worth 20 bucks. Now I just need to break the habit. I caught myself packing up my gum tin this morning.
Like all the good guys on this site say you have to quit every single day.
I work with a bunch of boilermakers and all but a few smoke and dip and I almost feel sorry for them now. I feel better than I have in a decade and I’m 52 years old.
Whatever you need to get to help get off the nicotine…get it. Day 79!!

I miss the days before I needed chew to feel good . as they say the thrill is gone.I will try the gum already tried the patch but I know the real key is not to use nicotine because I do it feels like a bottomless pit that I keep throwing Skoal into.

Quitting this drug is not easy I’ve been chewing Skoal apple since 2008 and replaced it with Skoal crisp 3 years ago to save money. Its unbelievable the hold it has had over me in the past 6 years biggest trigger definitely is work. But I pretty much chewed every where all the time. I didn’t think about the health risks until my wife showed me mouth cancer pictures. Since then(8months ago) I’ve had tons of anxiety. Anxiety about chewing. Not chewing. Watching someone else chew. How could they put that shit in their mouth all day and not care or worry about the health problems? I hate tobacco so much! It literally changed my brain chemistry to want it constantly all the time but today is the day its been 14 hours since my last chew I just out my wife is expecting our first child. And after reading stuff on this site I don’t wanna put the child through Any of it and I wanna be around for it. I don’t need this stuff its just my brain trying to trick me! I’m tired of failing! I will conquer! . PS( thanks for this website its such an inspiration I wanted to write a comment for months and finally got the courage today on my lunch break instead of getting another can at the convenience store!)

Ok here I go again! I had quit for about 3 years when before I knew it the stress of a dead end job and people at that job worked my last nerve, on that particular morning something triggered a panic attack as I was leaving to go on a job and before I knew it I was at the counter asking for a good ole can of Grizzly Mint…….I was like a kid on Christmas when I got back into my work truck all excited rubbing my hands together and then poof!!!!!! here I am about 5 years later trying to do it all over again….. I did quit for about 4 days a couple weeks ago but was having the normal withdrawals (walking around all foggy, loss of concentration) the normal stuff, so I convinced myself that I quit the wrong way and I should ween myself off slowly, so I’d buy a can and throw half away…… well as embarrassed as I am to say but as I’m writing this I have a lip full! I’m getting ready to buy some Smokey Mountain and am convinced this time will be the last!! Wish me luck guys and now that there’s a place to express myself you’ll be hearing from me……..ALOT!!!

I still use Smokey Mountain and is has been a life saver for me. Do what ever it takes. I used smokey mountain and nicotine lozenges at the same time. That worked like a charm.

Hang in there. You’ll Make it this time.

I took over the counter migraine medicine and drank lots of water. The headaches and nausea were horrible for me.

Feel better and hang in there.

I’m in day 10 dip-free after 40+ years of snuff use. Hasn’t been terrible, but last 2 days have had little appetite, and upset stomach. Normal?

Hope everyone is doing good this holiday weekend. My name is Jay and I have dipped for over half my life. I threw my can away on August 3, 2014. This has been a very tough month. My wife found this site and I have done a lot of reading on here and I must say I never really took the time to educate myself about what I was putting in my body.

I am looking for support a this time. In the future I WILL be the guy lending support to others. I have remained dip free as of now. I will admit I have smoked a few cigarettes to help ease the withdrawal. I know it is more mental at this stage but that’s where I’m having the most trouble. Looking for advice and guidance.

On a positive note, my gums already feel better and I am not getting the hint of blood anymore when I brush my teeth.

I got the physical part beat, its the mental I’m having trouble with. I’m 30 days dip free today. The fake stuff is helping a bunch however I still find myself bumming a cigarette or 2 at work. I have never even liked smoking. Any suggestions on how to overcome this mental hurdle?

Jay, congrats on making it 30 days without dip. I just hit 70 days myself. For the past few years I went back and forth between different forms of tobacco — smoked cigarettes first, then cigars, then dip, then cigarettes again, etc. Anyways, the point is when you’re smoking cigarettes you’re still getting the nicotine fix, so although you’re not dipping anymore (and serious props — I know how hard it is), you’re still putting nicotine in your body so you’re postponing the nicotine withdrawal.

If it helps you for now, that’s all right — but be careful. When you go all in and stop bumming the cigarettes, your first reaction will probably be to reach for the dip again, and it will be tough to fight.

Keep us posted

After soon tough love from my family, I can honesty say im a week free off nicotine. Luckily I didn’t smoke enough cigarettes to cause me to go through the first ,72 hours again. Its a long fight, but im ready to take it head on.

Hello. I am 28 days dip free today. I however have smoked a few cigarettes. I have done good this week however it just seems to be a an uphill struggle.

I have used dip more than half my life. I decided it was time to quit as my son turned 1 and the news of Curt Shillings cancer was being talked about on ESPN. My wife has never asked me to stop until I mentioned it and she took the lead. I have the best wife ever.

As I read the stories on this site and a few others, I now realize this is a process that a man needs help with in order to succeed. I will continue to check in daily and post progress reports, gpod and bad. Thanks in advance for the support.

36 Hours dip free. 1st time in over 10 years I went an entire day without at least one dip. The Oregon Mint Snuff Pouches are helping a lot, they don’t taste quite right, but having that pouch in my lip is helping a ton. I’m envious of the others who are past the hardest part, and want to get there. I’m glad I found this site, as it helps inspire me and know I’m not alone. God Bless

In my last post I forgot to note how much money I have saved…$1302.00
So, my wife bought me a house full of strippers for my birthday with that money. As long as I didn’t get titty-itus it was money well saved by not dipping.!!

I’m still hanging in there. This is my 5th day without a dip, and it fuckin sux… I was hoping it would be easier after the first 72 hours, but I’m feeling cravings more now. Luckily I bought 3 tins of the fake stuff (nicotine and tobacco free) and I just fool myself by spitting in bottle just like its the real thing. Congrats on quitting and thanks for asking Tuck and Chewie.

I just googled Oregon Mint Pouches and ordered them on-line. I dipped Skoal Wintergreen pouches and these were the closest I could find. I haven’t had a real one in 12 days, Good Luck man, you can do it.

I have grown almost fond of the fake stuff. I never leave home without a couple of cans. I thought that I could not respect myself if I dipped fake dip but after 3o years of dipping, I needed something.

Hope you’re feeling a little better dude.

That is crazy…I have had a few really good days, after I thought I was done with the fog, and then bam! out of nowhere, another day of “symptoms” today. It sucks. But I think it is totally worth it. Saw a great interview today on ESPN with Curt Shilling describing the pain of cancer treatment on his throat. I’ll take the fog any day over what he described. Hang in there OLDE SMOKE…to hell with tobacco!

I am 15 years old, and I’ve been dipping for only about five months strait now( on and off since I was 13). I just really like to dip because the taste, and the feeling it gives me. It makes me feel that it helps me because I’m so stressed about so many different things, I dip one can of grizzly wintergreen long cut every two days. I put one in after every hour, id say I dip about six times a day. Here recently I’ve started to look at pictures online of people who had receding gums, jawbone removal! leukoplakia, tooth loss, throat cancer, and everything else. It all just scares the shit out off me because I don’t want to be without teeth or a jaw. I know this all sounds a bit dramatic, and I sounds like a puss, but damn it scares me lol.

Just turned 17 a few months ago been dipping since about 13 and I decided to quit before leaving for boot camp in a couple of months so it wont be as bad. This is the third time Ive tried to quit. Luckily being underage its hard to get a hold of so that’s a positive but also being underage its hard to get ahold of Nicorette or the fake dip. Currently going on day 2 and the cravings are kicking my ass. Cant seem to concentrate and my normally relaxed attitude has been substituted for an asshole. Hopefully this subsides a little within the next few weeks. Anyways best of luck to the rest of you.

8 Days dip free!! Feeling pretty good and just throw in a fake pouch when the cravings hit, also been snacking a lot… I’ll take a few extra pounds to get rid of the chew. Cutting back a week prior to my quit date really helped, and I feel like the worst is behind me already! If you can get past the first week, you can do it!!! Good luck to everyone else struggling through quitting.

I quit for ten years and then started back several years ago (What a dumb ass) I know how hard it is to quit and not looking forward to it but I am tired of being a slave. I am going with th Nicorette and Smokey Mountain. The Nicorette was a life saver the first time I quit.

Mike, I was up after a fight with my wife about quitting and I found this site and read your post. I took the dip out of my mouth and threw it away. I am now 36hrs without a dip. Also the first time in years I have gone this far.

Thanks and hang in there.

112 Days Copenhagen free. Randomly use the fake stuff. Going to dentist for first time in about 4 years. Won’t lie am pretty nervous but need to just get it over with. Even after 112 days I still think about chewing every day but the anticipation and
Anxiety over the dentist keeps reminding me why I would be dumb to start back up plus I would hate to start my timer back to zero.

Chris,
I am on day 86, what I did was to make it to 7 days, yes the worse is the first three days, it is hard, use fake chew, remember, most of us go cold turkey.

Once you make the first 7 days, go for 14, that was my focus.

Read and post, we are here for you… Stick with it!
