I Made It 100 Days HOF
I started chewing 26 years ago in high school because it was cool. After 26 years of chewing my Kids and Dentist kept asking me to quit. I said it’s bad if I didn’t realize that this crap is not only hurting me but my kids. Well, Thanksgiving Day 2011, I started a new habit NOT CHEWING. I would have never thought chewing could rule your life. Almost like you can’t function without it.
I was going to do a program through my work; they offered nicotine gum so I was going to start to wean myself from nicotine. Till I ran into Bean & DennyX on this site.

“You’ve got a lot to learn. This site isn’t for people who “will” quit. And it isn’t for people who choose gum over tobacco. It is for people who QUIT. That means no nicotine right the fuck now!!! I wish I were welcoming you because I know (we all know) what you’re battling. But until you’re ready to go cold turkey, we can’t help you. You’ll just have to sit on the sideline and watch the badasses show you how it’s done.”

“Speaking of badass quitters, check out this thread: whsii intro. He had a similar plan as you and just but the hall. I know without doubt he would still be banging a can if he didn’t man up and QUIT as opposed to switching delivery methods. Toss your crap and post day 1 NOW, not tomorrow.”
Then I quit cold turkey on turkey day ( Thanksgiving ) I can say the first 3 days were tough. Then the pressure eased off a noticeable amount. Now here I am 100 days later not using any nicotine.
Five things that have helped me the most.
- Reading a lot on this site
- Drinking a lot of water
- Changing my daily routine
- Mind over matter, don’t think about it
- Make it a competition with yourself and others to quit
And the best way to quit is to stop making excuses, Man up and just quit!
Thanks for the help guys,

Every day gets that much easier for me and I’m just getting started. 14 days in and a lot better today than last week. Quitting was the best thing I could do for myself and my family
Random check in Mitch – it’s 5 years later – still quit?
