Jake’s Mint Chew Pouches Review

A couple of days ago we announced the news that smokeless alternative vendor Jake’s Mint Chew was going to be releasing pouches. I’m thrilled to be back today with a review of these pouches.

Before you get going here, check out my reviews of other Jake’s Mint Chew products below:

The pouches, available in Straight Mint, Wintergreen and Natural Spearmint, are already available on the Jake’s Mint Chew website. They’re currently only available in 10 tin packs but it wouldn’t surprise me to see pouches make their way into Jake’s sample and variety packs shortly. Each tin contains approximately 20-22 pouches (.40 ounces).

Note that the labels you see pictured here will vary slightly from what you see when you get the product. Correct labels are shown below:

Before I get into my review check out this short video I shot of when I first opened Jake’s Mint Chew Pouches.

Jake’s Mint Chew Pouches Review

As I said in the video upon opening the product they all smelled great. We’re talking mint here so they all smell like, you guessed it, mint but with slight variations based on the flavor. Also as I said in the video, the pouches are much dryer than I expected them to be but luckily it did NOT detract from the flavor.

Tip: If you’re looking for a pouch product that’s more in line with say a Skoal Bandit from a moisture perspective it’ll take about 7-10 drops of water (or booze) to get you to that same level of moistness in the can.

I started with Straight Mint and then went on toward Wintergreen and finished up with Natural Spearmint. The flavors are pretty similar between the three but there are subtle differences that set them apart. The Wintergreen for example is much “sweeter” in smell and taste than the Straight Mint and the Natural Spearmint takes that sweetness and amps it up a bit with a “bite” reminiscent of a great tasting after dinner mint that you may get at your favorite restaurant.

From a personal favorite point of view I’d probably put the Wintergreen or Natural Spearmint above the Straight Mint but again that’s personal preference, and remember I was a Kodiak Wintergreen guy for the majority of my dipping days.  The Wintergreen flavor here doesn’t strike me as spot on for any specific brand but the smell definitely brought back memories of Skoal Wintergreen Bandits. The Natural Spearmint flavor reminded me of Skoal Spearmint and the Straight Mint sort of stands alone as a sold mint flavor but didn’t necessarily remind me of any one brand.

Jake’s Mint Chew Pouches Ingredients

  • Natural Spearmint – organic mint, organic glycerin, organic vegetable oil, organic and natural flavors, water, xylitol
  • Straight Mint – organic mint, organic glycerin, organic vegetable oil, organic and natural flavors, water, xylitol
  • Wintergreen – organic mint, organic glycerin, organic vegetable oil, organic and natural flavors, water, xylitol

As these products are all organic and all natural you can swallow the juices without worrying about any damage to your insides or even heartburn (in my experience). The pouches themselves should not be swallowed.

Jake’s Mint Chew can be found on the web at www.jakesmintchew.com. As always, special thanks to Adam and Jake for providing samples for me to try and review.  Don’t forget to check out our other smokeless alternative reviews (including reviews of other Jake’s products).
