Killing The Can For 17 Years… and Counting

17 years ago KillTheCan.org was ‘born’. On November 20th, 2023, KillTheCan.org will recognize 17 years of helping people break the bonds of their tobacco addiction!  As we’ve done every year since our inception, we’ll be having a one-day-only, site wide roll call on November 20th to help commemorate the day.

The celebration will take place right here on the site – in the comment section of THIS VERY POST!

KillTheCan.org has gone through some pretty significant changes over the past several years. It’s been two years now since we migrated the majority of our support and discussion to our DISCORD SERVER. This was a massive change and there were some (many?) within our ranks that were hesitant to make the switch.

With the benefit of hindsight I can confidently say it’s been a MAJOR success. We have seen more engagement and brotherhood than we had seen in years on the forums. In fact, every new quit group since January 2022 has been EXCLUSIVELY on our Discord server.

That said, our forums aren’t gone. Far from it. You will still find daily discussion and roll call there just like you always have. Our social media platforms (Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / YouTube / TikTok) continue to experience huge growth and engagement all thanks to you. There’s support if you’re quitting dip around every coroner. You just have to look for it and you’ll find KillTheCan.org.

A word about social media… there was a time when I was hesitant to embrace it. There was a time when I really tried to force any and all traffic and conversation to the forums. And while that served us well for years, it’s just not the way things are in 2023. So… we’ve had to be where quitters are looking for us. That’s our mission. Provide support for people looking to quit dipping and quit nicotine. As the digital landscape changes, so will we.

A lot has happened in the past 17 years we’ve been helping people quit dipping. Here’s just a small list in no particular order:

• The iPhone was Introduced
• Bin Laden killed
• Hurricane Sandy
• The world’s first iPad
• Ice Bucket Challenge

• COVID

Through it all, we’ve been QUIT. And no matter what the next 17 years bring us, we’re going to REMAIN quit.
