Smokey Mountain Citrus – Herbal Snuff Review
It’s been quite some time but I’m back tonight with another alternative review. Smokey Mountain Snuff – smokeysnuff.com – is the fake dip that probably used more than any other during the early stages of my quit. When I first reviewed their product line way back in 2012 they had a great offering of nine different varieties. I’m thrilled to say that SMC has expanded their product line with their newest flavor: Smokey Mountain Citrus.
If you’re not familiar with Smokey Mountain you can check out my original review of their products here. In addition to their website (and Amazon) you can find Smokey Mountain in most Walmart locations nationwide.
Smokey Mountain Citrus Review
I’ve gone on record many times in the past that I’m not a huge fan of flavored dips. I was primarily a Kodiak Wintergreen guy for most of my dipping “career” and many of the citrus flavored dips weren’t really all that popular before I quit. That said, this is simply outstanding.
As with all Smokey Mountain products, Citrus gives you an outstanding smell when popping open the can, more than enough dark brown saliva if you want to spit (though you don’t have to) and a flavor that’s out of this world. Some of the citrus flavors on the market tend to be a bit on the bitter side for me. This has that nice warm citrus flavor that’s right in between orange, tangerine and lemon. It’s not overpowering and not too sweet. Running the risk of sounding like Little Red Riding Hood… it’s just right.
The consistency of the product itself (which you can hopefully see from the brief video above) is somewhere between long cut and fine cut. Gun to my head, I’d say it’s closer to long cut but not quite there. SMC products really are in the discussion of “closest to the real thing”. For some folks this is just what they’re looking for and for others it can be a slippery slope. I’m personally a big fan of fake dip as a tool in the quitter’s arsenal.
Smokey Mountain Citrus – Ingredients
Molasses, Corn Silk, Water, Glycerine, Kudzu Root, Salt, Artificial Flavorings, Licorice, Sodium Bicarbonate, Propylene Glycol, Sucralose & Acesulfame K (sweeteners), Blue 2, Red 40, Yellow 6 Lakes (coloring), Cayenne Powder, Methyl & Propyl Paraben (preservatives)
Smokey Mountain Citrus is available on the SMC website or on Amazon now. Additionally as I said, you can find their products in Walmart across the country. You can get it as a single can (on Amazon), as a part of a two or five can sample pack, a 10 can roll or as a part of a 10 can mixer. Tell em KillTheCan.org sent you!
Special thanks to the folks at Smokey Mountain for providing me samples to try and review.

Can I get sick if I swallow Smokey mountain herbal snuff
Hi Mike – I’m not sure I’d open up a can and eat it, but I don’t think it’s going to make you sick either. Pretty sure it’s made of food grade ingredients.
Anyone who was using Citrus Skoal will be happy with this product. At the start of the quit I had the SM Citrus and the Skoal Citrus and actually preferred the taste of Smokey Mountain.
Downside is the cut of the corn silk “leaves”, very fine and can get everywhere when the dip starts to move around, but it does feel and act like a tobacco dip.
My preference is not to swallow the juice, find it sweet and gives me a bit of heartburn. But great that you can, gets rid of the need for a bottle/spitter.
Is it safe if swallow the wintergreen smc
if anyone ever drank alka seltzer when they were sick, the taste of this citrus reminds me exactly of that. definitely not good memories…
Got my order of SMC Citrus in the mail today. Popped it open & the initial smell was weird, has that hint of Citrus with the hint of a spray cleaner. I know that sounds weird, but that was my initial thought. Popped one in & it pretty much tastes how it smells. I have a had 2 today & I really do enjoy the taste. I am not sure if I enjoy it better than Hooch, but this stuff ain’t too bad.
Cool, I will check this out for sure. A quick question, did you say you can swallow SMC? If so, I never knew that. Thanks.
I did say that. Not sure if that’s the “official” position from SMC but at least for this Citrus flavor I did and it didn’t bother me at all.
Nice. The Citrus blend has me intrigued. SMC Wintergreen was my goto for awhile into my quit. It was weird, outta the blue it just lost all appeal, then I turned back to Hooch, which I still use now.
Went to Walmart, they only had Classic. Dammit man.
