The Leaf – It’s Under Control
My father always dipped snuff and curiosity eventually got the best of me. I was 12 years old when I took my first dip, It made me nauseous so I spit it out within the first few minutes. To my surprise a couple days later I had the urge for another one, this was the start of my addiction to the tiny leaf which came at a $3 a day fee.
8 years and a band later I was on my way to meet my bandmate for a recording session when I noticed a strange rough patch in my mouth unlike anything I had ever experienced before. My 30 minute drive was spent thinking about how bad I wanted to quit, I’d had these thoughts many times before I just hadn’t ever acted on them. I would always say to myself, “Ok I will just finish this can so it doesn’t go to waste and that will be the end of it.” Not this time.. I drove to the nearest gas station and dunked my half full can of Grizzly Long Cut Straight like Michael Jordan.
It’s been 100 days since my last dip thanks to the help of KillTheCan.org and my quit buddies. I owe’d it to myself, my family, and my bands to quit. I couldn’t have done it without the accountability of the people on this site and for that I am thankful.
my band Day One’s new album that will be dropping within the next few months is a product of a nicotine free me. Singing sound a whole lot better without a dip in.
