The Ryan Express – Non-Tobacco Antioxidant Dip Review

The Ryan ExpressBack again this morning with another long overdue review of what I believe to be the newest player in the smokeless alternative world, The Ryan Express. This product takes its name from Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan and is a VERY unique entry into to the alternative space. It’s made from grape seeds, grape skins and honey!

From their included marketing material:

Piedmont R&D has created an antioxidant, non-tobacco dip that actually tastes great and could be good for your health and body. Over 100 antioxidants in this dip are working in harmony.

  • Over 100 Antioxidants
  • Heart Health
  • Promoted Joint Health
  • Revitalizes Energy Levels
  • Supports Sexual Health

Now I can’t speak to their medical claims and if I’m being honest I was sort of taken aback when I read “could be good for you” but I’m guessing that’s got to be written that way since this is patent pending and is really more of a food grade product they don’t really want to make any claims that will get them into trouble. That said, I’m reviewing this from a dippers perspective so let’s get into it.

Check out this short video I shot of Ryan Express product itself before trying it. As I said, it’s very unique.

The Ryan Express Non-Tobacco Antioxidant Dip Review

The first thing you notice when you pick up a can of The Ryan Express is how much their cans weigh. It’s a significant difference from other alternatives (or real dip for that matter). I started with the All Natural flavor which was interesting to say the least. There’s no packing necessary and as soon as you see the product you’ll see why. It’s made from grape seeds, grape skins and honey all sort of mushed together. The product itself has the consistency of a warmed up fruit roll up. It’s quite tasty and if you choose to spit it (which you don’t need to, and in fact can says not to) it will produce quite a bit of saliva.

If I’m being honest this is really more of a food than it is a dip alternative but similar to the way a rolled up fruit roll up, beef jerky, or other food would do the trick to curb those cravings, The Ryan Express will absolutely “scratch that itch” when it comes to your oral fixation.

The Wintergreen variation does add a nice “kick” of wintergreen flavoring to the experience, and one that this former Kodiak Wintergreen guy appreciated for sure. If I had to choose one flavor I’d suggest Wintergreen over All Natural, but that’s personal preference.

The Ryan Express isn’t my favorite but there’s a niche out there and those people will love it. If you’re looking for more of a natural product, one that it more of a food grade product that you can eat then this is for you. There’s quite a bit of literature available about the science behind muscadine grapes and how good for you they are. The Ryan Express taps into that science and the notoriety of its namesake.

The Ryan Express offers these two flavors, available on the Ryan Express website now. You can get single cans or a two pack. You can also set up auto-ship in several frequencies (7 days, 30 days and 60 days) which is a nice touch for regular users. It’s expensive $4.99 for a single can, $8.95 for a two pack as of this writing but they really do pack it in there. According to their site, “one can of The Ryan Express contains more than 2 times the amount as most dips.”

I really like this stuff. The wintergreen reminds me of Hawkins (the dip that got me into this mess). My only problem is the price. If they make the price competitive I will probably buy it again.

different but I like it. The problem I have with all the other dips, and I have bought every brand made. I have not found one that I like because they all have to much pepper that really burns. I have dipped for 54 years, cope and red seal fine cut and I have not found a replacement yet. For me its like what brand can make it hotter than the competition. I do not need the burn just something between lip and gum. Forgot to mention I have tried moat coffee grinds. If anyone has found a product with no burn let me know

This is the most disappointing product I have bought in the last 20 years. It will mess up your teeth and feels like it will fall off. Ryan was a honorable pitcher but this is not a product that should be sold.
