This Is For You Dad
Dad,
I had decided to quit a 35+ year, can a day, habit on January 9, 2011. On January 11, 2011 I phoned you to tell you I had quit two days ago and was struggling. Before I could tell you my news you told me that the Doctors had found cancer in your throat and a spot on your lungs and that you were going to have to go through chemo treatments again. You made it through one session and then were admitted to the hospital.
On February 4, 2011 I sat in your hospital room, holding your hand, until you passed away at 9:00 pm. You were only 66 years old and had a lot of life ahead of you but tobacco cut it short.
I want you to know, Dad, that I will not have my wife and kids watch me die over something that I have done to myself and I will never touch tobacco again.
I love you with all of my heart and soul and I miss you so very much.
Your son,
Gary
