Red dye 40 and all the dyes are bad .. red dye 40 causes cancer. I am switching to schmittys. I really like this product too.. wish this did not have these chemicals
Is Smoky mountain Wintergreen bad for a diabetics and people with high blood pressure
Would be a good question for your doctor. When I was using SMC regularly it didn’t affect my blood pressure.
Is Smoky mountain Wintergreen bad for diabetics because of the molasses
How come no answer
That would be a question for your doctor to answer.
My husband dipped this for over a year and he had 7 small intestinal blockage he was in and out of the hospital so many times he was scared to eat or drink anything and when he stopped using smoky mountain it all stopped within a few weeks knock on wood he has been a lot better but it’s scary when he gets anything wrong with his stomach he starts to freak out
Hmm… that’s interesting. What makes you think it was something specific to SMC? SO glad to hear that he’s doing better!
so he was chewing in the hospital? I can understand that there could be blockages but they will easily clear once he stopped…and I am happy it has cleared. could he not have this by spitting vs swallowing and/or increase water?
i see people in the bush get high on roots like ashwagandha was wondering how much kudzu root is in the new classic brand and what are the limitations on herbal substitutes people eat pot brownies they get high and report no side effects are there chew substitutes that cause safe mild reactions? that is what the kudzu root question is about can we get high off of it.
Is there a sugar free or salt free version? I was able to stop tobacco with this but I need to limit my sugar and salt too.
I love this stuff….I chewed Copenhagen for 20 yrs …then 2 more yrs chewing grizzly premium select …I chewed 2 cans or more a day…I had 2 cans left in the freezer and I just said I’m done …threw them in the trash …next day I ordered fully loaded sample pack and smokey mountain sample pack..fully loaded tastes like old nasty ABC snuff …. they all had a nasty taste that tasted similar and horrible textures …smokey mountain grape is amazing but I’m not into the sweet kind ….peach was well peachy and Cherry tasted like skoal cherry ….atlest from what I remember when I tried that as a kid…. straight tasted like the straight snuffs I tried… to sweet…natural which I was hoping tasted like copenhagen or grizzly natural…tasted more like cougar or redseal or maybe longhorn…it’s kinda like the difference between sugar free and something with sugar….tastes similar but leaves that nasty after taste…winter green is is almost perfect a tad sweet but has a bit of a bite …I’d have chewed it yrs and yrs ago if I ever thght to try ….the texture is better than expected …not my favorite …reminds me of silver creek long cut …it’s definitely not a bd texture…I chew about a can at work ….I work 3 12s on the days I don’t work ….I really don’t chew it maybe 2-3 on my 4 days off ….I used tobacco pretty hard …pretty much had a chew in all day spot one out put one in on the other side and I was never addicted to the nicotine ….it’s just the feeling of it in my mouth…..pouches help a tad but it ain’t right…this stuff cures me of the oral fixation. I believe I’ll be done with this also in a few weeks ….moving to more of an office job and won’t chew at work like I do now being outside….biggest issue I have with SM is they use RED 40 which causes cancer …..
Pros
Great flavor
Great texture
Cures the oral fixation
Helps you quit
Cons
Really gets stuck in your teeth
Alot of sugar and
Red40
Overall I give it a 9.5/10
I could have chewed this for over 20 yrs instead of Copenhagen….it really is that good .. however I’m using it to quit and it is working amazing
What is that looks like Fiberglass in some of the tins? Not each tin has this which makes it strange? I order 20 at a time and some tins have what appear to be some type of shavings in them and others don’t
Hank – I reached out to the owner of Smokey Mountain to get your answer:
He said, “Those are menthol crystals, which provide instant flavor. Unfortunately, menthol crystals become much more visible in cooler weather. They are not harmful – it is a food grade ingredient. If they do not like the look, bring the can in the house (warmer) and shake it up and they should be less visible. We get that question quite a bit. Thanks.”
Tried the wintergreen straight before the pouches….on the pouches, noticed it was made in the Philippines and contained Phenylalanine, what is this and why is the ingredient different with the pouches?
Hmm… honestly not sure. Let me see what I can find out.
What in the fuck is the purpose of this shit? Dipping is suppose to give you a buzz or if youve been doing it as long as me it doesnt but wtf man. Hipsters they make fake “healthy” veganific alternatives to everything.
*sigh* No response necessary but I’m a glutton for punishment.
This has nothing to do with hipsters or veganific alternatives to anything. It is a tool for people who are wanting to quit dipping.
You’re an idiot
I chewed Copenhagen for 40 years. I have quit for up to a year before. This and products like Grinds give me something in my lip that helps with the cravings. Been using it for about 1-1/2 years. Nothing to with hipsters. You might want to cut caffeine out of your diet.
I see fiberglass in my can, this can’t be very good.
Not likely. Can you take a pic and post it?
It’s not fiberglass it’s menthol crystals and they show more in cold weather you can warm it up and they won’t show as bad
I’m lactose intolerant are the pouches going to cause a problem?
I’m lactose free are the pouches that have milk going to be a problem
Parabens duh! Banned in every other country. In addition, if you are allergic to parabens, you will turn purple and swell up like crazy…chewing it right now btw…
What is the sugar content of the SM Straight flavor. My husband is diabetic and we need info on this product of the affects it has on diabetes.
I would like to know this as well!
20 grams per can direct from manufacturer. It’s high.
I’d like to know the sugar content in grams or some sort of measurement as well.
I have high blood pressure and noticed real dip had a ton of salt per can. What is the salt content of Smoky Mountain????
I had to quit ALL tobacco and nicotine 6 weeks prior to surgery. Now I am concerned that, although nicotine and tobacco free, if the ingredients in SM can interact with the anesthesia or have any other affects on the surgery
I honestly don’t know if this could be an issue. Is there a particular ingredient that you are worried about?
My friend is diabetic and wants to continue using the wintergreen.he is concerned that the 1st ingredient is Molasses. How much sugar is in the product? Thanks!
I would like to know this as well!
Is there nicotine in the SM products? For some reason I feel addicted to it. Stuffing a fat wad of sunflower seeds in my face just isn’t as appealing as SM.
No… no nicotine or tobacco in Smokey Mountain. You may feel “addicted” to the physical act but there is nothing chemically that is holding on to you. The good news is (if you’re like me) that eventually you just won’t reach for it any more. I chewed the fake stuff for a good 220 days or so into my quit and then one day I just didn’t need it any more.
Thank you. I am on day 3 and haven’t craved anything just my SM wintergreen. I was on grizzly for 10 years. Maybe 6 dips a day. Now I just do 1 or 2 SM dips a day. Grizzly was causing bone loss over 10 yrs.
Try to quit my dudes. I just hope SM doesn’t use sugar bc that causes cavities when dipped too. Do you know if sugar is used?
I dipped skoal for 20 years going to the denist twice a year with no problems. About 3 years ago I switched to sm artic mint still been going to the denist twice a year, last week he asked me what I’m doing different because I’m showing some decay on my front lower canine ( right where I keep my dip) I’m 40 and have my first cavity. Are there any products that won’t cause anymore teeth problems.
Just got a can of SM wintergreen and watched a review on YT about it said something about the ingredient red 40 causing cancer/Tumors?! Is that ingredient really needed? Also how serious is it
Hmm… can you point me to the video in question?
This may very well be a case of “anything” being able to be linked to cancer in high enough dosage.
Did you find an answer to this?
In another one of your comments to user Erik, Chewie, you mentioned the president of SMS said they haven’t used Ginseng or Guarana in a couple of years. Do you think you’ll be updating this ingredient list?
Hi Keith – thanks for the reminder. I’d just reached out to them again. Will update the ingredients list and respond to this comment when I hear something. Thanks!
They now have kudzu root in them and no Red Clover.
Hmm. Didn’t realize there was a switch. Would you be able / willing to send me a picture of the updated label that lists the ingredients?
